What You Can Do to Help

There are several things that you can do to help your patient to receive the benefits they deserve.

You can help by documenting your patient's condition in as much detail as possible and indicate limitations that explain the reasons why your patient can no longer work. Submit to us or to Social Security copies of your treatment notes when requested and remember that every little detail can help. Other helpful actions include keeping records that a lay person can understand and providing your patient with appropriate referrals to specialists and for diagnostic testing. Social Security relies on medical providers and other professionals to determine a person’s exertional and nonexertional limitations. For this reason, providing a residual functional capacity form or other statements related to the patient's ability to perform daily activities can be valuable. Please keep in mind that the attorney fees in these cases can be minimal and that your patients themselves must pay all your fees for treatment and for copying records and completing forms.
