Planning to Visit Six Flags for Halloween?
Many of you are planning to take your families to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, for Fright Fest, which runs on select nights through November 1. I don’t want to talk anyone out of a fun day at the park. But a recent tragedy involving a Six Flags roller coaster raises some important questions.
On October 12, 2026, a man died after an accident on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. Six Flags temporarily closed similar rides at other parks as a precaution, including Nitro at Great Adventure. Investigators have not determined what caused the accident.
Can You Sue Six Flags if You Are Injured?
Yes. If negligence caused your injury, you may have a claim against the park or another responsible party. That can include accidents on roller coasters, defective equipment, or dangerous conditions anywhere in the park.
But here’s something that might surprise you. Over the years, our firm has gotten many calls from people hurt at amusement parks, and quite a few weren’t hurt on rides at all. They tripped over uneven pavement, slipped on wet walkways, or fell because stairs weren’t properly kept up.
These accidents don’t make headlines, but the injuries can be serious. A broken bone, back injury, or head injury can affect your ability to work and care for your family.
What Should You Do if You Get Hurt at an Amusement Park?
Get medical care and report the accident to park management. Take photos of what caused your injury before it is cleaned or fixed, and save your tickets and the names of any witnesses.
New Jersey has a special 90-day written reporting rule for certain amusement park injuries. Because whether it applies can depend on what happened, my advice is simple. If you are hurt anywhere in a New Jersey amusement park, report it in writing within 90 days and keep proof the park got it. You can read more in our guide: Injured at a New Jersey Amusement Park? Know the 90 Day Reporting Rule.
The Bottom Line
I don’t want families to stop enjoying amusement parks because of one tragic accident. But whether you are hurt on a roller coaster or just walking through Six Flags, you should know your rights.
